Metro have Manchester United fans looking rather interested here at Footyette headquarters with their claim that Wayne Rooney will be staying at Old Trafford – for now.
They seem to think that the Red Devils are willing to play the long game when it comes to the England International and wait for an offer from a club outside of the Premier League- and certainly not one from their direct rivals. As one of our Footyettes points out, Rooney started the mega clash against potential suitors Chelsea and put in a man of the match performance. Given that coupled with the amount of games David Moyes’ men will have to play this season, it makes sense to us for the club to keep Rooney.
Former assistant manager Mike Phelan weighed in on the forward’s future and noted:
“Manchester United seem to be playing the long game,
“They might as well wait now. Who will they replace Wayne Rooney with? That’s the question.
“The ones they had on the radar they don’t seem to be able to nail down yet, so I think Wayne Rooney will continue to be a Manchester United player for the not-so-foreseeable future.
“What will happen during the season and going into the next transfer window nobody knows.”
Of course the Special One is still keen on bringing Rooney to Stamford Bridge and could well launch a final bid this week for the 27 year old.

Rooney played well against Chelski and Utd need to have a replacement sorted before any sale to whoever is permitted to go through.
Read yesterday that Roo can buy out his contract next year for about £12 mill . If a quality replacement can be obtained I would sell, but how many 20+ goal a season players are now available ?
